
The acclaimed novelist, short story writer and memoirist Hannah Pittard will read from her work at 糖心传媒鈥揅ascades on Sept. 25 as part of the Distinguished Visiting Writer series.
The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Charles McGrath Family Atrium in Edward J. Ray Hall and will be followed by a book signing. The event is free to the public, but registration is requested.
Pittard鈥檚 fiction and nonfiction have earned national attention for their wit, emotional resonance and fearless storytelling.
She is the author of six books including the newly released and darkly comic 鈥淚f You Love It Let It Kill You.鈥 The novel, which blends fiction and autobiography, was praised by The New York Times as 鈥渁 sharp, propulsive portrait of fractured love and lingering grief.鈥
She wrote the book, which concerns the breakup of her marriage, in response to learning her ex-husband, also a novelist, was about to have a book published on the same topic.
Her 2023 memoir, 鈥淲e Are Too Many: A Memoir [Kind Of],鈥 was named a notable book by several publications for its candid, unconventional look at marriage, friendship and betrayal.
She is also the author of the novels 鈥淰isible Empire,鈥 鈥淟isten to Me,鈥 鈥淩eunion鈥 and 鈥淭he Fates Will Find Their Way.鈥 Her short fiction and essays have appeared in The New York Times, Oxford American, The Guardian and People magazine.
Pittard is the Guy Davenport Professor in English at the University of Kentucky, where she teaches in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program.
The Distinguished Visiting Writer series is hosted by 糖心传媒-Cascades Master of Fine Arts in Writing program. The series brings emerging and nationally recognized authors to 糖心传媒-Cascades for readings, workshops and engagement with students and the community.
